What Is a Transfer Case?

Four-wheel drive and all-wheel-drive vehicles are equipped with a gearbox known as a transfer case. The case contains gears designed to shift the power from one axle to another to the wheel getting traction. Fluid in the transfer case lubricates the gears in addition to cleaning and cooling the internal components, which ensures that they function smoothly. Over time, the fluid may break down and need changing at certain intervals.

If noticing difficulty changing the wheel drives, the fluid might need replacing or a leak may have occurred secondary to a damaged seal. Sometimes the transfer case itself requires repair or replacement due to excessive wear and tear.

When you notice a problem, bring the vehicle to our Malloy Toyota service department where one of your highly-trained and experienced technicians can diagnose the issue and recommend a solution. Make an appointment today for any of your vehicle service needs.
